Our Story: From a High School Project to a National Brand

The first Adagio-style water feature originated in 1984, when Jeff Geddes built a simple fountain in his high school metal shop class. In 2001, Jeff partnered with Alan Combs and Dan Jones to officially launch Adagio Water Features.

Shortly after launch, Jeff parted ways with Alan and Dan, who continued managing the new company through its early development.

A New Era of Leadership

In June 2003, Justin Combs, a BYU business graduate, joined the company and took over daily operations. His leadership helped stabilize and grow the business during a critical early stage.

Engineering Better Water Flow

At the time, many water feature manufacturers used simple tubes with drilled holes to distribute water across the surface. These tubes clogged easily with mineral buildup, creating dry spots, uneven flow, and significant dripping.

Working with Alpha Systems, Inc.—owned by Alan Combs and Bob May—Adagio engineered an improved trough-style water distribution system. This design delivers smooth, even water coverage and resists clogging, making it far more reliable and consistent. This innovation quickly became one of Adagio’s major competitive advantages.

Growth, Ownership Transition & Vertical Integration

Adagio initially outsourced much of its fabrication work to Alpha Systems and other local partners. In 2010, the company purchased Alpha Systems and brought all production in-house. This was a major turning point, enabling Adagio to begin building a fully vertically integrated manufacturing operation.

After acquiring Alpha Systems, Adagio invested in additional machinery and equipment that allowed the company to complete all major forms of production internally—including plastic fabrication, sheet metal fabrication, and custom packaging and crating. This vertical integration improved quality control, strengthened customization capabilities, and significantly reduced lead times.

In 2014, Adagio built a complete stone fabrication facility, allowing stone cutting, finishing, and preparation to be brought in-house. This upgrade expanded Adagio’s ability to offer a broader range of premium surfaces and improved the precision and consistency of each stone.

Recent Advancements

More recently, Adagio has invested in advanced laser cutting systems and CNC bending technology.  This equipment greatly increases efficiency, enhances precision, and produces cleaner, more consistent results across all metal components. These upgrades represent Adagio’s ongoing commitment to innovation and continual improvement.

Ownership Change and Continued Growth

In 2017, Justin purchased the company from Alan and Dan as they entered retirement, becoming the sole owner. He has since driven Adagio’s ongoing growth by improving manufacturing efficiency, expanding vertical integration, and introducing new and improved product designs.

Today, the company continues to grow through online retailers, designers, brick-and-mortar partners, and direct sales through AdagioWaterFeatures.com.
